United Natural Foods Selects DataFlux for Enterprise Data Quality Initiative

Release date: 7/29/2010

To improve data quality for its natural, organic specialty food product lines, United Natural Foods, Inc. chose DataFlux to help consolidate and cleanse its product data

Cary, N.C. (July 29, 2010) — DataFlux, a leading provider of data management solutions, today announced that United Natural Foods, Inc. (UNFI), the largest distributor of natural, organic specialty foods and related products in the United States, has selected DataFlux® technology to help consolidate and cleanse product data from its legacy systems as part of an initiative for operational efficiency.

Before selecting DataFlux, United Natural Foods had several regional data repositories to meet the differing requirements of sales, marketing, procurement and operations. The company needed an automated data profiling and data quality solution to support multiple data-dependent projects, including product master data consolidation and master data management (MDM). UNFI required one system that could centrally manage data for tens of thousands of items and still serve the various groups that relied upon individual data sources.

The company selected DataFlux technology based on recommendations from peers and analysts, the solution’s built-in search capabilities and the speed at which DataFlux technology could be integrated with UNFI’s existing systems.

“DataFlux not only provides the technology we need to more easily cleanse the data we already have, but will also allow us to monitor and continually improve our data in the future,” said John Stern, CIO of United Natural Foods. “Within a week of working with DataFlux, we were better able to understand where we can make improvements to take our data quality to even higher levels.”

“DataFlux has a long history of working with companies like UNFI to help consolidate data from separate, regionalized legacy systems,” said Tony Fisher, president and CEO of DataFlux. “As UNFI adopts high-quality and accurate data across the company, it will be able to make better decisions faster, enabling improved operational efficiency and effectiveness.”
