Why Buy?

February 28th, 2006

Getting executive buy-in is critical for any enterprise initiative. Apart from the approval of resources, executives will determine the level of commitment of the initiative for the rest of the organization. Without this commitment, enterprise initiatives such as CDI and MDM are bound to fail — or at least fail to live up to expectations — and end up mired in politics or the absence of support. - Read the rest of this entry »

Upstream and Downstream

February 27th, 2006

Sometimes it appears that there are two competing aspects of data quality. One is the focus on data cleansing, in which “bad” data is corrected, while the other focuses on process management, in which the sources of data flaws are corrected. - Read the rest of this entry »

Enough is Enough!

February 21st, 2006

Okay, enough is enough! How much is a certain credit card company going to spend to get my son to apply for its VISA card? February 13th, 2006

I am perplexed. One of our clients spent a reasonable amount of money last year on our development of a series on analytical projects intended to pilot the concept of a Business Intelligence program. Yet neither of us is happy… - Read the rest of this entry »

The Fierce Conversation

February 10th, 2006

If I hear “forty is the new thirty” one more time I’m gonna punch somebody in the nose. When I turned 40 it was almost like my body flipped a switch… - Read the rest of this entry »

“And the survey says…”

February 9th, 2006

The other day I was rummaging around in some of my papers, and I came across a data management survey that was published a couple of years ago. These type of surveys aren’t exactly rare, but this one struck me (perhaps I just happened to be in the right frame of mind at the time) because it considered some of the issues that I have been mulling over lately. - Read the rest of this entry »
