Giving Governance and MDM their DUE

September 25th, 2007

I wanted to spend a few days considering my experience at the DataFlux User’s event last week. I and Evan Levy presented keynote talks; mine was largely on enterprise information management (and how data governance and data quality hold it together), and Evan spoke about master data management. - Read the rest of this entry »

DataFlux Does It Again! DUE Remembered

September 19th, 2007

Last week’s DataFlux User Event was yet another well-produced, high-energy, aha-moment fun-fest. Usually when you go to a vendor conference the fun doesn’t really start until the welcome dinner, or on the last day when you buy your nephew a plushy key ring in the hotel gift shop while you’re waiting for the airport shuttle. - Read the rest of this entry »

We’re in Production Now!

September 13th, 2007

I am so sorry that I couldn’t make it to the Dataflux Users Event for 2007, in Orlando. I had a couple of medical issues to handle, and now I feel GREAT! The first is considering the horizontal structure of enterprise applications. We are conditioned to look at application development in association with achieving specific goals related to defined tasks - process an order, arrange for product shipping, generate a policy, etc. But although businesses are often configured and aligned along siloed vertical operations, the actual business processes line up horizontally. - Read the rest of this entry »

Debating Data Stewardship — The Third in a Series

September 4th, 2007

I’m writing this from a cottage in the hills above Santa Barbara, a location that ratchets up my inherent existentialism. This ticks off my mate, who simply wants to have some quality time away from the office with me, the dogs, his laptop, the remote, (yes, on vacation the laptop and the TV burn brightly in unison), and a mega-bag of Pepper Jack Doritos. - Read the rest of this entry »
