A Word From Jill

So I’m reading this book called, The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership and I’m perusing all the different laws and actually feeling pretty smug until I get to Law Number 9 (”The Law of Magnetism”) and I say to myself, Uh oh, this one’s trouble, only to be hit smackgob between the eyes with Law Number 10 (”The Law of Connection”). In a nutshell, Law Number 10 says that people really don’t care how much you know until they see how much you’re invested.

That’s basically why I decided to do this blog. Like my blogging brethren David and Robert, I’ve been thinking, speaking, and writing a lot about data. Specifically about why data matters-or should-to companies and why, ultimately, it’s a strategic asset. I’ve realized I’m sort of zealous about how information can help companies. I’ve seen how the analysis of data and its use have been nothing short of a competitive differentiator. It’s sort of a mission and I guess I’m invested in it.

I’m invested enough to have written a couple books on the topic of data-with another on the way. I’ve invested the last 14 years of my professional life in a company, Baseline Consulting, that helps companies realize the business potential of information. And I’m invested in helping proselytize the message that using information can help companies thrive. I’m invested in the hope that this blog will help spread that message. And I’m really hoping you’ll spend some of your time to take the ride with us.

I’m actually considering investing some of my time in Law Number 9, but that’s another story for another post…
